United Airlines announced on December 19, 2024, a significant expansion of its network out of its hub at Denver International Airport (DEN).
The highlight of this batch of eight new routes is a new seasonal nonstop connection between Denver and Rome-Fiumicino (FCO), which will operate daily from May 1, 2025, through to September 24, 2025. United Airlines plans to use a Boeing 787-9 on this service.
In addition to this first ever link between Colorado and the Italian capital, United Airlines is adding another seven destinations from Denver, across the length and breadth of North America: Buffalo, New York (BUF), Pensacola, Florida (PNS), Peoria, Illinois (PIA), North Bend, Oregon (OTH), Redding, California (RDD) and Wilmington, North Carolina (ILM) as well as Regina (YQR), in Saskatchewan, Canada.
This route expansion strengthens United Airlines’ position as the largest carrier at DEN, from where it flies to 160 destinations across the United States and another 20 internationally.
Denver, which is known for being a gateway to the Rocky Mountains, will also gain an additional long-haul service. Despite being one of the world’s top 10 airports by traffic, with nearly 78 million passengers in 2023, Denver International Airport sees limited long-haul service.
As of December 2024, United Airlines flies from Denver to London-Heathrow (LHR), Frankfurt (FRA) and Munich (MUC) in Europe, as well as Tokyo-Narita (NRT), in Japan.
United Airlines’ Star Alliance partner Lufthansa also flies to Denver from Frankfurt and Munich. Other European carriers servicing Denver include British Airways from London-Heathrow, Air France from Paris (CDG), Aer Lingus, seasonally from Dublin (DUB), Edelweiss Air and seasonally from Zurich (ZRH), Icelandair from Keflavik (KEF) and Turkish Airlines, with its recently inaugurated route to Istanbul (IST).
