Two killed, 19 injured as single engine plane crashes in Southern California

A single engine aircraft has crashed in Southern California, resulting in the deaths of two people and injuries for a further 19.

According to the Fullerton Police Department, the four-seater Van’s Aircraft RV-10 crashed onto the rooftop of a commercial building near Fullerton Municipal Airport (FUL). 

The crash occurred at about 14:05 local time on January 2, 2025. 19 people working inside the building at the time of the crash were injured. Eleven were taken to the hospital, the other eight treated on the spot by rescue teams. 

The Fullerton Police Department said that the two fatalities were from the aircraft. The identities of the deceased will be released by the Orange County Coroner’s Office once next of kin have been notified.

Video footage from surveillance cameras in the area captured the moment when the crash occurred, showing the aircraft plunging into the commercial building roof and bursting into flame.

Data from flight tracking website FlightAware shows that the plane crashed less than two minutes after taking off from Fullerton Municipal Airport in Orange County, located approximately 10 kilometers from Disneyland.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are now conducting an investigation into the crash.
