TAP Air Portugal has unveiled a range of new transatlantic routes for the northern summer season of 2025. The new flights will see Lisbon connected with new non-stop flights to Los Angeles while Porto will benefit from direct services to Boston. The airline will also serve San Francisco on a weekly basis from the Portuguese island of Terceira in the Azores archipelago.
The new flights from Lisbon Airport (LIS) and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) are scheduled to commence on May 16, 2025, and will operate on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays until May 26, after which a fourth weekly frequency will be added on Saturdays. The westbound flights will depart Lisbon at 09:55 arriving in the City of Angels at 14:40 local time. The flight time on the 5,690-mile (9,104km) route is scheduled to be around 12 hours and 45 minutes. The return flights will depart Los Angeles at 16:40, arriving back in Lison at midday the following day.
All flights are due to be operated by the carrier’s 19-strong fleet of Airbus A330-900neo aircraft which seat 298 passengers in a two-class configuration (34 in business class, and 264 in economy class. The flights mark a return to the route for TAP which last served Los Angeles from Lisbon in 1990.
Flights between Porto (OPO) and Boston (BOS) will start on May 14, 2025, and will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays until October 25, 2025. Flights will depart from Porto at 18:05 and arrive in Boston at 20:30. The 3,144-mile (5,030km) route will take seven hours and 25 minutes. Eastbound flights will depart Boston at 23:00 and land in Porto at 10:35 the following day. All flights on the route are to be flown by the carrier’s A321LR fleet which seat 168 passengers.
Lastly, from June 3, 2025, one of the airline’s weekly A330neo flights that operate between Lisbon and San Francisco (SFO) will include a stopover at Lajes Airport (TER) on Terceira Island in the Azores. The stopover will occur on Tuesdays and will allow for connections to the West Coast of the US from the island for the first time. The route from Terceira to San Francisco is 4,918 miles in length (7,869km).
The new routes will boost TAP’s transatlantic network which currently includes flights from Lisbon to seven US airports – New York-JFK (JFK), Newark (EWR), Boston (BOS), Miami (MIA), Washington (IAD), San Francisco (SFO), and Chicago (ORD), and from Porto to Newark.
