Star Alliance Status Match Scandinavia

Following the formalization of Scandinavian Airlines’ (SAS) switch to the SkyTeam alliance on September 2, 2024, Star Alliance has launched an initiative to match the loyalty status of existing SAS EuroBonus Gold and Silver status members.

The departure of the Scandinavian carrier saw Star Alliance lose eight million members of its loyalty program.

The departure of the Scandinavian carrier means that Star Alliance no longer has access to eight million members of its loyalty program.

The EuroBonus frequent flyer program was launched in 1992 and, as SAS CEO Anko van der Werff explained at a press conference in June 2024, it is one of the airline’s most highly valued assets, given its strong presence in the Nordic markets.

Star Alliance is, therefore, seeking to keep some of these travelers within its fold by continuing to grant access to its perks and benefits regardless of them now transferring by default to the SkyTeam’s orbit.

EuroBonus status holders now have until November 30, 2024, to request a status match in the frequent flyer program of any of the following Star Alliance airlines: Air Canada, Air China, Air India, Ethiopian Airlines, Lufthansa Group airlines, South African Airways, TAP Air Portugal, THAI, Turkish Airlines, and United.

The match can be requested online via a dedicated section on Star Alliance’s website and will be free of charge.
