Since September 30, 2024, passport-less clearance has been fully implemented on all terminals at Singapore’s Changi Airport (SIN).
Singapore’s Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said that arriving and departing Singapore residents can clear immigration simply by using facial and iris biometrics, without the need to present their passport.
All foreign visitors can also enjoy the convenience of passport-less clearance when they depart Singapore.
According to ICA, the full roll-out of passport-less clearance at Changi Airport lowered the average clearance time for each passenger by 60%, from 25 seconds to 10 seconds.
Data from ICA shows that as of 15 October 2024, close to 1.5 million travelers have cleared SIN Airport’s immigration without presenting a passport under the passport-less clearance initiative.
Despite the passport-less technology, ICA advised that all travelers should still bring their passports as these may be required for immigration clearance at their destination countries. While in SIN Airport, ICA may also require travelers to produce their passports for verification.
