A Korean Air A330 aircraft encountered turbulence so severe it left 10 passengers and four cabin crew injured.
The incident occurred on August 4, 2024, when flight KE197 was flying to Chinggis Khaan International Airport (UBN) in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia from Seoul Incheon International Airport (ICN).
According to reports, the Airbus A330, with registration HL7584, encountered severe turbulence an hour into the 3.5-hour flight as it was flying over Tianjin, China.

Video clips and photographs of the aftermath of the turbulence have been uploaded to Facebook and X, and shared multiple times.
One video clip shows the aircraft aisle strewn with personal items, food, and various objects as passengers look around.
According to reports, the turbulence occurred during meal service and lasted about 15 minutes.
10 passengers and four cabin crew were injured. They were given pain medication immediately while onboard and were examined and assessed by medics once the flight arrived at Ulaanbaatar.
The South Korean flag carrier has made a number of adjustments to its service procedures due to the rise in extreme turbulence on commercial flights.
Since July 1, 2024, Korean Air has wrapped up its in-flight services 40 minutes prior to landing on all medium to long-haul flights, 20 minutes earlier than the previous service policy.
Further to this, the airline also said it will suspend its cup noodles service on economy flights from August 15, 2024, to avoid potential hot water injuries that may be brought about by turbulence.
