REGENT’s Squire seaglider completes wing-in-ground exercise with US military

REGENT announced on August 18, 2026, that Squire, its autonomous wing-on-ground (WIG) vehicle, successfully participated in Silent Swarm , an exercise to test experimental military systems which took place at the Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center, Michigan, on July 13-24, 2026. 

During nearly two weeks, several small, uncrewed systems demonstrated their capabilities across the land, water, and air domains and were tested in real word conditions against different types of electromagnetic countermeasures. 

Over the course of the exercise, REGENT’s Squire seaglider participated in various simulated missions, carrying various payloads for use in electronic attack, electronic protection, and electronic warfare support with the aim of showcasing its versatility and its ability to coordinate with other types of military assets. 

The Rhode Island startup is marketing its Squire vehicle, which is still undergoing development, as a long-range, low-signal platform capable of operating at high speeds of up to 70 knots (nearly 130 km/h) in contested maritime environments.  

These are all capabilities which have become particularly interesting for the US military as geopolitical confrontation with China looms in the background

The Squire USA-V (Unmanned Surface and Aerial Vehicle) drone is capable of performing missions such as intelligence collection, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR), frontline logistics, search and rescue and anti-submarine warfare carrying payloads of up to 50 pounds (47 kg). 

In April 2026, Squire became the first purpose-built military wing-in-ground vehicle to fly in the United States and has since participated in other live rescue and logistics demonstrations with the US Marine Corps Warfighting Lab. The tests performed so far have included dockside litter boarding, beach extractions, and an open-water life raft rescue.
