On the eve of the 2024 NBAA Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA-BACE) in Las Vegas, United States (US), Textron Aviation has jumped in with a huge announcement, unveiling plans for the next-generation models of three Cessna Citation private jets.
On October 21, 2024, Textron Aviation announced that a new series of light jets would represent the introduction of the Cessna Citation M2 Gen3, CJ3 Gen3 and CJ4 Gen3.
All three new models are currently in development, but Textron revealed that the Cessna Citation CJ4 Gen3 is expected to enter service in 2026, followed by both the CJ3 Gen3 and CJ4 Gen3 in 2027.
Those attending NBAA-BACE between October 22 and October 24, 2024, will have the chance to see a new Citation CJ3 Gen3 mockup and CJ4 Gen3 cockpit mockup at Textron’s static display at Henderson Executive Airport (HSH).
Garmin Emergency Autoland technology will be used in all three new aircraft, and the Citation CJ4 Gen3 features new, next-generation Garmin G3000 PRIME avionics for “intuitive, seamless control” for pilots.
“Today we unveiled the future of flight and the next generation of Cessna Citation light jets — the M2 Gen3, CJ3 Gen3 and CJ4 Gen3 — to carry on the iconic legacy of the trusted Citation brand while introducing cutting-edge advancements and technology,” said Ron Draper, President and CEO of Textron Aviation. “With the inclusion of revolutionary Garmin Emergency Autoland technology, as well as all-new Garmin G3000 PRIME avionics in the CJ4 Gen3, these aircraft promise to elevate the flying experience.”
According to Draper, the Garmin Emergency Autoland system “offers not just an advancement in automated flight capabilities but a profound enhancement in passenger and pilot peace of mind”.
The system is designed to protect those onboard the aircraft should a loss of control arise following pilot incapacitation, via automated emergency communications and landing.
