An Indonesian Air Force Sukhoi Su-30 fighter left the paved surface of runway 13 at Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport (UPG) in Maros, South Sulawesi, on the morning of August 24, 2026, coming to rest on grass beside the runway.
Airport spokesperson Taufan Yudhistira confirmed the excursion in a statement to the Antara news agency, saying it took place on the western runway and that handling was underway.
Airport operations continued on runway 03-21, the 3,100-meter north-south strip, and no commercial flight disruptions have been reported. Runway 13/31 measures 2,500 meters.

Roadside video shows Sukhoi beside runway
The Indonesian Air Force had issued no statement on the cause, the sequence of events, or the condition of the crew.

The aircraft, tail number TS-3011, halted within sight of the Makassar to Maros road, and video shot by passing motorists circulated on social media before any official confirmation.
One motorist quoted by Liputan6 said he saw smoke behind the aircraft, with the outlet reporting that dry grass near the site caught fire, prompting a fire response.
Hasanuddin hosts Indonesia’s entire Flanker fleet
Sultan Hasanuddin is a joint civil and military airfield. Air Squadron 11, stationed at Sultan Hasanuddin, operates the Indonesian Air Force’s entire Flanker fleet, 16 Su-27 and Su-30 airframes delivered between 2003 and 2013.
The type remains the service’s principal air defense fighter pending Rafale deliveries, covering the 42 aircraft ordered from Dassault Aviation in February 2022, and the further batch covered by a letter of intent signed with France in May 2025.
