International Airlines Group (IAG) announced it has committed to purchasing GEnx engines to power six new 787 Dreamliners for British Airways. This will be the first time the engines will have been introduced into the British carrier’s fleet.

The announcement was made on July 22, 2024, during the Farnborough International Airshow in the United Kingdom.

“British Airways was the launch customer for the highly successful GE90 engine,” Russell Stokes, President and CEO, Commercial Engines and Services, GE Aerospace said in a press release, published on July 22, 2024. “Bringing the GEnx into their 787 fleet represents another important milestone in our relationship.”

Currently, British Airways operates aircraft powered by GE Aerospace’s GE90, CF34 and LEAP engines, developed through a joint venture between GE Aerospace and Safran Aircraft Engines.
