A C919 and an ARJ21 aircraft, the two commercial aircraft currently being produced by China’s COMAC, performed their first ever formation flight display on November 3, 2024, reports Chinese aviation channel FATIII Aviation.
The stunt took place at the opening of the 2024 China Aviation Industry Conference and airshow, a three-day event that is taking place in Nangchang, in China’s Jiangxi province.
Nanchang was also chosen by COMAC in November 2020 for the first flying appearance of its C919 mid-sized airliner at an air show.
According to the Ch-aviation aircraft database, as of November 3, 2024, there are 11 C919 aircraft in commercial service with China’s three largest airlines, Air China, China Eastern Airlines and China Southern Airlines. COMAC’s order book for the type is close to 1,000 aircraft, most of them in the domestic market.
As per the smaller ARJ21, there are 121 aircraft active at the moment, also according to Ch-Aviation data, most of them also in China.
COMAC is also reportedly working on a wide-body airliner to compete with the Boeing 777 and A350 category.
