EVA Air of Taiwan has revealed expansion plans that will see the Taipei-based carrier launch a new route Dallas-Fort Worth Airport (DFW) from its home base at Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) on November 3, 2025. The new 7,718 miles (12,349km) flights are expected to operate five times per week using either Boeing 777-300ERs or 787 Dreamliners.
According to the airline, Dallas ranks as the world’s third-busiest airport in terms of passenger volume. The Texan city has also become a hub for high-tech businesses migrating from Silicon Valley, driving frequent business travel to the region. The route will also facilitate onward connections via DFW to destinations across Central and South America, which according to the carrier, should “ensure strong passenger and cargo load factors.”
During a recent briefing to stakeholders, the airline said that the move would assist the airline in keeping aligned with its strategy to capitalize on a robust recovery in passenger demand across the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region as well as globally.
During the briefing, EVA Air representatives disclosed that the airline was experiencing significant growth in global passenger numbers, with almost double-digit growth being seen across its network. It is on its long-haul network on which the carrier is seeing the most growth, with demand for its Asia-Pacific services seeing the largest increase in demand following the boom in post-pandemic travel.
For the period between January and October 2024, EVA Air saw an increase of 8.4% in passenger revenues over the same period in 2023. This was coupled with a 2% increase in passenger volumes and a 9.7% overall increase in capacity, measured in Available Seat Kilometers. In terms of a breakdown, the revenue figures saw a contribution of 44% from routes to North and South America, 19% from Northeast Asia, and 15% from its European services. The airline reported that post-pandemic airfares remained consistently higher than pre-pandemic levels, boosting revenues further.
Speaking at the session, Sun Jiaming, EVA Air’s General Manager confirmed that the airline is preparing for continued increases in passenger numbers throughout the remainder of 2024 and into 2025 with the peak end-of-year travel period on the horizon. To meet the surging demand for its flights, the carrier is planning to offer Spring Festival charter flights to Hakodate Airport in Hokkaido (HKD) plus additional; passenger and cargo charter flights to other destinations across Japan, including Aomori and Matsuyama, both famed for their cherry blossom displays in the springtime.
From April to October 2025, the airline will also add new flights to Kobe Airport (UKB) to support the expected upsurge in travel demand during the Osaka World Expo.
EVA Air’s fleet expansion plans for 2025 are also in place to align with its growth strategy. By the end of 2024, the airline will operate a fleet of 84 aircraft, comprising 17 Airbus A321s, nine A330-300s, 33 Boeing 777-300ERs, four 787-9s, and 12 787-10s. The carrier also operates a fleet of nine 777-200F freighters as part of its cargo division, EVA Air Cargo. Six further 787s will join the fleet in the first quarter of 2025, bringing the total fleet to 90 airplanes, while looking further ahead, another 41 new aircraft are scheduled for delivery to the carrier from 2026.
