A Eurowings flight bound for Manchester International Airport (MAN) was forced to perform an emergency landing at Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) due to an “undefined odor” in the cabin.

The aircraft, an Airbus A319 operating as flight EW8470 departed BER airport at around 08:00 local time on July 15, 2024. It climbed to 10,000 feet, then returned to make a safe landing back at Berlin at 08:26.

The airline said in a social media update that the aircraft was inspected for the “undefined odor” without any findings. It also said the flight would be delayed.

The 17-year old aircraft, registered as D-AGWF, was carrying 150 passengers at the time of the incident, most of whom attended the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Euro 2024 final on July 14, 2024.

Upon landing, passengers and crew exited the plane via aircraft stairs and were taken to the terminal by bus.

While no-one on board was reported to be injured, many of the passengers took to social media to air complaints that no Eurowings representative had met them back at the terminal to provide updates and they were left to navigate the situation on their own.

Eurowings told The NY Post that all affected passengers were eventually placed on alternate flights.
