An easyJet pilot was taken to the hospital after fainting during a flight from London to Lisbon.

The incident happened on July 27, 2024, on an easyJet Airbus A320-200 aircraft carrying 193 passengers.

The first officer felt unwell after departing London Luton Airport (LTN) at 07:35 local time and was hospitalized immediately after landing at the General Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS) in Lisbon, Portugal, at 10:10 local time.

According to local media reports, the captain successfully landed the aircraft by himself but raised a red alert before landing. A red alert is triggered when a mandatory pause in operations is required for safety reasons. It is typically indicated to ensure the safety of passengers and crew on the airplane.

The pilot was met by paramedics upon landing and transported the pilot to Lisbon’s Santa Maria Hospital for medical evaluation and treatment.

“easyJet can confirm that flight EZY2459 from Luton to Lisbon was met by the paramedics upon landing due to a crew member feeling unwell,” easyJet told the Mirror in response to the incident. “The flight landed safely in line with procedures and passengers disembarked normally.”

The carrier added: “At no point was the safety of the flight compromised. The safety and welfare of passengers and crew is easyJet’s highest priority.”

A similar situation happened on March 14, 2024, when a British Airways Boeing 777-200ER flying from New York-JFK to London-Gatwick (LGW) was forced to divert to St John’s in Newfoundland, Canada, after one of the pilots became incapacitated.
