A Cessna Caravan aircraft owned by the Colombian Civil Aeronautics veered off the runway and crashed into a wooded area during takeoff on the morning of July 31, 2024.

Footage of the crash was widely shared on X by the local media. The accident was confirmed by the Personería Municipal de Bahía Solano, a local government agency in Bahía Solano, Colombia.

Preliminary information suggests that the Cessna 208 Caravan aircraft, which can typically carry up to nine passengers with a single pilot, was preparing to take off from Cupica Airport (BHF) when it slipped off the runway.

The small plane crashed in a wooded area in the township of Cupica, located in Bahía Solano, Colombia.

The aircraft was carrying four Civil Aeronautics aviation workers, who were on their way to inspect the condition of the runway used for takeoffs and landings. Neither of the workers were injured.

Carlos Mario Cardona, the Bahía Solano representative, told local media that the government needs to enhance the runway.

Although the crash did not cause any collateral damage or emergency evacuations, Civil Aeronautics will investigate the cause.
