In a week where many airlines have been announcing new routes, Tbilisi seems a popular place to head. Both British Airways and easyJet have announced new flights between the UK and the Georgian capital city for the northern summer season of 2025.
Georgia is known for its rich history, vibrant culture, traditional cuisine, and picturesque scenery. The country proudly lays claim to being the birthplace of wine, with an 8,000-year-old history of winemaking that remains a predominant part of its culture today.
Tbilisi is located on the banks of the Mtkvari River, surrounded by hills with the Caucasus Mountains to the north. The city attracts visitors to its historic city center, its unique blend of architecture, and its diverse cuisine. The canyons and caves near Kutaisi and multiple UNESCO World Heritage sites are all within easy reach for visitors.
British Airways has announced it will launch flights from London-Heathrow Airport (LHR) to Tbilisi International Airport (TBS), on March 30, 2025, operating four times per week. British Airways will be able to choose between Club Europe (business class) and Euro Traveller (economy) on every flight.
“We’re delighted to welcome Tbilisi back into our route network, after our last scheduled service in 2013,” said Neil Chernoff, British Airways’ Chief Planning and Strategy Officer. “We expect this to be a popular route with the leisure market, which has seen a strong comeback since 2019, as well as with those looking to enjoy direct flights to visit friends and family. We look forward to improving the connectivity between our two capital cities next year,” he added.
“We are proud that flagship carrier British Airways has decided to enter the Georgian market, which is an important recognition for our country,” said Mariam Kvrivishvili, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia. “This will significantly boost Georgia’s awareness within the UK market and improve connectivity with the USA, which is a strategic partner country of Georgia.”
The new British Airways flights will depart Heathrow at 21:25 local time and arrive in Tbilisi at 05:30 the following morning (BA890). The flights will operate on Tuesday. Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays from London. The return flight (BA891) will depart Tbilisi at 07:30 on Mondays, Fridays, and Sundays (07:10 on Wednesdays) arriving at Heathrow at 10:00 (09:40 on Wednesdays). All flights will be operated by Airbus A320neo aircraft.
Meanwhile, easyJet has chosen the same day to reveal its own services between London and Tbilisi but operating from London-Luton Airport (LTN) rather than Heathrow. The twice-weekly flights, which will commence at the start of April 2025, will operate on Tuesdays and Fridays. The outbound flight is expected to be around six hours with the return flight coming in at around six hours and 40 minutes.
Outbound flights (EZY2649) will depart Luton at 11:25 on Tuesdays and 13:40 on Fridays arriving in Tbilisi at 2025 and 2240 local time respectively. The inbound flight leaves Tbilisi at 20:55 on Tuesdays and 23:10 on Fridays, arriving back in Luton at 22:15 and 00:30 respectively as EZY2650.
The low-cost link, the first between the two countries since Wizz Air operated the route until 2020, will open up budget connections between the UK and destinations in Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and onwards into China.
