Firefighters descended on an Airbus facility close to Toulouse-Blagnac Airport (TLS) after a fire broke out in a furnace, according to French media reports.
La Depeche reported that on September 1, 2024, a fire broke out on a furnace “used as a hydraulic press for metal aviation parts” at Airbus’ Saint-Eloi factory.
Emergency responders from the Haute-Garonne Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (SDIS 31) were called to the incident at around 09:30 local time and coordinated with Airbus’ own firefighters to eliminate the threat.
According to French media reports, around 20 firefighters and five engines from Toulouse-Delrieu, Lougnon and Toulouse-Atlanta fire stations attended the incident.
“Two hoses were used to limit the temperature rise and prevent the spread,” the Haute-Garonne fire service said.
In a statement to La Depeche, Airbus confirmed the outbreak of the fire “which was brought under control thanks to the intervention of the sdis31 teams this morning”.
At the Saint-Eloi factory, Airbus builds pylons that integrate jet engines on the wings for all its aircraft families.
Toulouse is central to Airbus’ production as a base for final assembly lines of commercial aircraft including the A320, A330, A350 and A380 families.
