Air Cairo has placed a firm order with Airbus for 15 A320neo airliners as the Egyptian carrier continues expanding and modernizing its narrowbody fleet.
The agreement marks Air Cairo’s first direct purchase of A320neos from Airbus. The airline already operates several leased examples of the type.
Air Cairo has grown rapidly in recent years, adding Airbus narrowbody jets alongside ATR 72 turboprops and Embraer E190 regional jets. On August 20, 2026, the carrier announced that it had taken delivery of its 40th aircraft, an Airbus A320neo.
The latest order could increase Air Cairo’s fleet by more than one-third if its existing aircraft remain in service when the new jets arrive.
Air Cairo received its first A320neo in April 2021. The airline has since made the type a central part of its fleet as it adds scheduled and leisure routes connecting Egypt with destinations across Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
The A320neo can carry up to 186 passengers in Air Cairo’s single-class configuration. Airbus says the aircraft delivers at least a 20% reduction in fuel consumption and carbon emissions per seat compared with previous-generation narrowbody aircraft.
Air Cairo has not disclosed the financial terms of the latest agreement. Delivery dates and an engine selection were not included in the initial announcement.
The airline is partly owned by EgyptAir and operates from bases including Cairo, Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh. Its network combines domestic services with international routes aimed largely at Egypt’s tourism market.
The direct order gives Air Cairo its own Airbus delivery positions rather than relying exclusively on aircraft sourced through leasing companies. It also provides the carrier with additional capacity to replace older A320s or support further network growth.
