Lufthansa (LHAB) (LHA) and British Airways abruptly suspend all flights to Cairo for seven days over security concerns.
On July 20, 2019, British Airways announced suspending flights to the capital of Egypt, Cairo. Lufthansa (LHAB) (LHA) followed British Airways and halted flights on the same day. . Both airlines cited unspecified security concerns as the reason for suspension, however, neither of them have revealed specific details of their concerns.
“We constantly review our security arrangements at all our airports around the world and have suspended flights to Cairo for seven days as a precaution to allow for further assessment,” British Airways confirmed in a statement to AeroTime.
Meanwhile, Lufthansa (LHAB) (LHA) `s spokesperson told AeroTime: “As safety is the number one priority of Lufthansa (LHAB) (LHA) , the airline temporarily suspended its flights to Cairo on July 20, 2019, as a precaution due to an unclear security situation in Cairo. Normal operations resumed on July 21, 2019”.
“LH584 (July 20, 2019) FRA- CAI and LH586 Munich-CAI (July 20, 2019) were canceled on Saturday meaning the corresponding return flights LH585, LH587 (July 21, 2019) will automatically be canceled,” she added.
