ZeroAvia will power the fleet of the UK’s new ‘green airline’, or at least it is planning to do so once its ZA600 hydrogen-electric powertrain is certified.

EcoJet, a brand new British regional airline founded by renewable energy entrepreneur Dale Vince, with the idea to offer zero carbon flights within the UK, will receive 70 ZA600 powertrains through leasing company MONTE.

In June 2023, MONTE signed a deal with ZeroAvia for 100 hydrogen fuel-cell engines.

Provided all goes according to plan, the ZA600 will be granted certification in 2025. In the meantime, EcoJet, plans to launch with conventionally powered aircraft.

ZeroAvia is currently testing its ZA600 engine on a real aircraft, a specially retrofitted Dornier Do228, which has already completed 10 test flights in the UK.

In parallel to this, ZeroAvia has also started work on its next, largest hydrogen powertrain, the ZA2000, which is expected to enter service in 2027. The ZA2000 will be able to power larger regional aircraft, such as the De Havilland Canada Dash 8 Q00 and the ATR-72.
