Raytheon Technologies’ Collins Aerospace business has been awarded a contract by the US Air Force to continue producing advanced-level propellers for its C-130 Hercules aircraft.

Raytheon said that the $135M deal will allow Collins to manufacture and support new NP2000 propeller systems, including the electronic control system and spares.

NP2000 is an eight composite bladed propeller system designed for performance.

According to Raytheon, its composite blades can be removed individually without removing the entire system, making maintenance work more efficient. This will also decrease maintenance time and extend the life cycle of aircraft fleets in general.

“Reliability and maintainability are important to our customers,” Quinlan Lyte, senior director for propeller systems at Collins Aerospace said in a statement

“We are retrofitting the Air Force’s fleet to improve performance, increase flight safety and lower operating cost,” Lyle further said.

Raytheon said that work on the contract will be performed at its Power and Controls location in Windsor Locks, Connecticut.
