United Airlines reached a preliminary agreement with its pilots, represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, to raise salaries by up to 40.2%.

The $10 billion deal, which was finalized on July 15, 2023, but still needs to be ratified by the carrier’s 16,000 pilots, covers a period of 4 years during which the pilots will get raises ranging from 34.5% to 40.2%, depending on the aircraft type they fly.

Several major US airlines have been negotiating new pay packages with their pilots’ unions over the course of the last few years.

This follows by a few days a similar deal by which American Airlines’ pilots, represented by the Allied Pilots Association (APA), agreed to a 40% pay rise. However, as in the case of United’s it still needs to be ratified in a vote that will take place between July 24 and August 7, 2023.

Prior to that, in March 2023, Delta’s pilots voted to approve a 34% pay rise, while Southwest’s pilots are still negotiating with their employer.
