Ukraine has introduced a new set of sanctions against 150 Russian companies and individuals operating in Russia’s aviation sector.
The new sanctions, introduced by the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC), were announced by the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on September 1, 2024.
Zelenskyy said the new restrictions will target legal entities and individuals in Russia, as well as those who collaborate with Russia, “who chose to work for evil – for war.”
According to presidential decree No. 602/2024, Ukraine will target several airports in Russia. This includes Russian civil and cargo airports in Moscow, such as Vnukovo International Airport (VKO) and Moscow Domodedovo Airport (DME). The restrictions will also apply to airports in Khabarovsk, Kursk, Bryansk, Belgorod and 10 other Russian cities.
Additionally, Ukraine will prohibit or restrict aircraft from entering its airspace and will not allow Russian-linked aircraft to land in the country.
As part of the new sanctions, Ukraine said it will restrict trade activities and stop the export of capital. The country will prevent participation in privatizations, leases of state assets, and public procurement, the decree continued.
These sanctions will apply to 73 transport, aviation freight, and service companies in the Russian Federation, along with 74 individuals from Russia.
“The task for all representatives of Ukraine is to do everything to ensure that Ukrainian sanctions are synchronized with world sanctions,” Zelenskyy said.
