Turkish Airlines has announced the launch of a new destination in the United States: Detroit, Michigan.

America’s car making capital will become the Turkish flag carrier’s 13th destination in the US.

Starting November 15, 2023, the airline will operate a thrice-weekly service (on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays) between Istanbul Airport (IST) and Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW), with Boeing 787-9 aircraft.

From December 25, 2023, the frequency will increase to four per week, with the airline adding an additional service on Saturdays.

The last addition to Turkish Airlines’ US network was Seattle (SEA), Washington, in 2022.

A 14th destination is already in the works, with Denver (DEN), Colorado expected to launch before the end of 2023.

The addition of Detroit and Denver to Turkish Airlines’ network will significantly increase the international connectivity options for travellers in the US Midwest.

Denver is a major hub for United Airlines, a Turkish Airlines partner through its Star Alliance membership, while Detroit is a hub for Delta Airlines, which is a member of the competing SkyTeam alliance.

At a recent media event in Istanbul, Turkish Airlines’ chairman, Ahmet Bolat, stated the airline is aiming to expand its network to 400 destinations in the near future.
