Thai Airways has secured another three Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners in addition to the 48 that the carrier confirmed at the Singapore Airshow 2024.

The new long-term lease agreement announced on February 26, 2024, was signed with Air Lease Corporation with the three 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft expected to be delivered in 2025.

“We are delighted to commence this new partnership with ALC, with the addition of three Boeing 787-9s to Thai Airways’ fleet. The incorporation of these aircraft underscores our dedication to fleet modernization and delivering exceptional comfort and efficiency to our passengers. Thai Airways International is thrilled to further strengthen our relationship with such an industry-leading partner,” Chai Eamsiri, CEO of Thai Airways, said.

The new jets are part of Air Lease Corporation’s existing order book with Boeing so the aircraft will arrive fresh from the factory when they join Thai Airways.

“We are pleased to announce this transaction for three new Boeing 787-9 aircraft with new customer, Thai Airways International,” Steven Udvar-Házy, Executive Chairman of Air Lease Corporation, said. “ALC is honored to add these three Dreamliner aircraft to Thai Airways’ growing widebody fleet and we look forward to a long-term relationship with the airline.”

“These new state-of-the-art Boeing 787-9s will be utilized on flights to Europe, Australia and Intra-Asia to strengthen Thai Airways’ global network,” Chi Yan, Senior Vice President of Air Lease Corporation, added.

After weeks of speculation Thai Airways confirmed on February 20, 2024, at the Singapore Airshow that it had placed an order with Boeing for 45 787-9 aircraft.

Then on February 21, 2024, at the airshow Thai Airways and lessor AerCap announced that the national flag carrier would lease a mix of Boeing and Airbus aircraft

As part of the agreement Thai Airways agreed to lease 10 Airbus A321NEO aircraft, four Airbus A350-900s (two already delivered) and three Boeing 787-9s.

With all three agreements in place, in the space of one week Thai Airways has secured the services of 51 Boeing 787-9s.
