Damascus International Airport (DAM) in Syria has resumed active operations after being attacked by a series of air missile strikes, according to the Syrian state-controlled news agency SANA report.

Syria’s main aviation hub was targeted on the night of January 2, 2023.

“At about 2 in the morning, the Israeli enemy carried out an air attack with barrages of missiles from the direction northeast of Lake Tiberias, targeting Damascus International Airport and its surroundings,” the SANA report reads.

The Lake Tiberias is in Israel, whom the Syrian state-controlled media names as the alleged culprit of the attack. However, Israel has not officially commented on the attack yet.

Reportedly two Syrian soldiers died, and two other officers were injured during the incident.

Syria’s Ministry of Transport announced that the airport resumed its operations after around seven hours of halt and noted that the country’s flag carrier Syrian Air restarted serving passenger flights.

It was the second attack on DAM airport since June 2022. At the time, air strikes launched by Israeli forces caused significant structural airport damage, which was fixed two weeks after the attack.
