Florida-based low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines has announced it will be marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month throughout October 2024 with the unveiling of a collection of pink-inspired uniform options for its employees.

According to the airline, Spirit Airlines employees will have the option to wear the new ‘PiNK’ Collection (with a capital “NK” in honor of Spirit’s two-letter IATA airline code), throughout October 2024 as part of the carrier’s commitment to advance breast cancer awareness and to raise funds for breast cancer research.

The PiNK Collection features pink accents on dresses, cardigans, long and short-sleeved shirts. It also includes pink accessories such as scarves, ties, socks, belts, and pins. According to the carrier, the announcement of the new uniform fund-raising initiative was met with “overwhelming enthusiasm from Spirit Team Members” said the airline, leading to the special-edition uniforms selling out in under 24 hours.

Additionally, with every purchase of the PiNK Collection’s pin, polo, and cardigan by Spirit employees, the airline’s in-house fundraising arm, the Spirit Charitable Foundation has agreed to make a donation to BRCAStrong, a South Florida nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the fight against breast cancer.

“The launch of Spirit’s first-ever PiNK Collection is a significant milestone in our commitment to serving the communities where we live and work and advancing meaningful causes like breast cancer awareness and research,” said Dana Shapir Alviene, Senior Vice President of Inflight and Airport Experience at Spirit Airlines.

“Every opportunity to raise awareness makes a difference in the lives of so many of our Guests, Spirit Family Members, and communities. With the debut of our PiNK Collection this year, we’re taking our support to the next level,” she added.

The PiNK uniform rollout forms just a small part of the carrier’s fundraising and awareness-raising efforts in support of its commitment to breast cancer support. The carrier will also be sponsoring the 2024 Miami International Airport (MIA) Runway 5K event on October 19, 2024, in support of the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign.

Additionally, through the Spirit Charitable Foundation, the airline has offered long-standing support to various health organizations such as the Royal Dames of Cancer Research, the Rumbaugh-Goodwin Institute for Cancer Research, Ronald McDonald House, Susan G. Komen, SknVue, and Personal Ink.

Sprit’s move comes just days after German carrier Condor rolled out a special edition pink variation of its striped aircraft livery in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. One of its Airbus A320 aircraft will wear the special livery and on October 1, 2024, operated a special flight from Frankfurt to Lanzarote to bring attention to the issues surrounding breast cancer.

As well as the pink strikes, the Airbus A320’s cabin features pink headrest covers and special safety cards, which contain detailed information on the topic of breast cancer prevention.
