Chinese airline Shenzhen Airlines is planning to launch direct flights between its base at Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport (SZX) and Barcelona-El Prat (BCN).
The information was reported by Chinese media outlets and confirmed by the Chinese consul-general in the Catalan capital via Twitter.
Although few details are currently known about this new service it is believed that it will begin in August 2023 and have a thrice-weekly frequency. The only long-haul aircraft currently operated by Shenzhen Airlines is the Airbus A330-300.
This will be Shenzhen Airlines’ second destination in Europe, after the launch of flights to London-Heathrow (LHR) in 2018.
Shenzhen Airlines is the fifth largest airline in China and a member of Star Alliance. It currently has a fleet of 200 aircraft, mostly narrow-bodies that operate on domestic routes. The airline also flies to several international destinations in Asia, such as Tokyo, Osaka, Seoul, Bangkok, and Hanoi, among others, in addition to the London link.
