Saudi Arabia-based flynas has ordered 30 Airbus A320neo aircraft, confirming previous reports suggesting that the airline was looking to acquire aircraft from Airbus.

The airline firmed up an order for 30 Airbus A320neo family aircraft, though the manufacturer did not disclose the exact type. The newest order has increased flynas’ order book to 120 A320neo family aircraft, 10 of which are the A321XLRs

Airbus and flynas signed the agreement at the Paris Air Show 2023. Attending the event were a myriad of executives, including Airbus’ Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) and Head of International Christian Scherer, flynas’ Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director Bandar Almohanna. Also present were Saleh Al-Jasser, the Minister of Transport and Logistic Service of Saudi Arabia, Abdulaziz Alduailj, the President of the General Authority of Civil Aviation in Saudi Arabia (GACA), and Ayed Aljeaid, the Chairman of the Board of NAS Holding, flynas’ parent company.

“As we continue to grow, receiving several awards for excellence in operations and customer services and invest in our offering, we are delighted to confirm our latest order with Airbus,” said Almohanna, adding that the A320neo family brings unmatched benefits to passengers. It offers “exceptional operational performance and environmental benefits, while helping us provide unique travel experiences at low-cost,” according to flynas’ chief executive.

Meanwhile, Scherer pointed out that the economic factors, the longer range and a spacious cabin in the single-aisle segment “have made the A320neo Family the preferred choice of airlines worldwide”, including among low-cost carriers.

“We look forward to working with flynas as it develops its future fleet and presence in the fast-growing Saudi market,” added the Airbus CCO.

flynas’ fleet currently consists of 32 A320neo, 13 A320ceo, and four A330-300 aircraft, with additional orders for 51 Airbus aircraft: 41 A320neo and 10 A321XLRs.

Previous reports implied that the airline was looking to finalize an agreement with Airbus at the event.
