KM Malta Airlines, the new flag carrier of the Mediterranean island nation, has signed a codeshare agreement with Air France ahead of its launch.

The new partnership will facilitate passenger connections between the two airlines’ respective networks. Like Air Malta, the airline it replaces, KM Malta Airlines is not currently affiliated with any of the three major airline alliances.

KM Malta Airlines will have a significant presence in France, offering 19 weekly flights between Malta International Airport (MLA) and the French capital, where it serves both major airports, Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG) airport with 10 weekly flights and Paris-Orly (ORY), with nine. The Maltese carrier also serves Lyon-Saint Exupéry (LYS) five times per week.

KM Malta Airlines is not yet operational. The flag carrier of Malta will continue to be Air Malta until March 31, 2024. Air Malta will then transfer all its assets and operations to KM Malta Airlines before being wound up as a company.

The new successor airline obtained its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) and launched its online booking platform in December 2023.

KM Malta Airlines will launch with a fleet of eight Airbus A320 aircraft and serve 17 destinations throughout Europe.
