A Kalitta Air Boeing 747 veered off the runway upon landing in China, resulting in the aircraft being stuck in the ground.
The Boeing 747-400F, registered as N401KZ, landed at Ningbo Lishe International Airport (NGB), China, at 3:22 PM local time (UTC -8) on August 7, 2023, when it drifted off the runway and became stuck in the grass.
Videos shared on Twitter showed the aircraft trapped on the verge, with emergency vehicles being present at the scene.
According to the Meteorological Aerodrome Report (METAR) at 3:00 PM local time (UTC –8), provided by flightradar24.com, the wind was blowing from 270 degrees at a speed of 0.2 meters per second, with the direction varying between 210 and 320 degrees. Furthermore, light thunderstorms and rain were present at the airport, with recent rain showers.
A METAR reading taken an hour later indicated that there were recent thunderstorms and there are no expectations that the weather would change significantly within the next few hours.
The Kalitta Air Boeing 747-400F arrived at NGB from Anchorage Ted Stevens International Airport (ANC), Alaska.
Prior to the aircraft skidding off the runway, several flights had diverted from landing at NGB, including China Eastern Airlines, Spring Airlines, Hainan Airlines among others. Many other flights were canceled later in the day, flightradar24.com data showed.
