A Jet2 Airbus A321 aircraft was diverted after a passenger was discovered dead in one of the plane’s lavatories midflight.

According to The Mirror, other passengers became concerned when they realized the lavatory had been locked for an unusually long time.

The flight crew aboard the Jet2 plane were alerted and immediately tried to provide the man with medical help, but sadly were unable to save his life.

Flight LS918 left Tenerife South Airport (TFS) on January 2, 2023, just after 4:15 pm local time but was diverted to Cork Airport (ORK) in Ireland after the passenger was found.

The aircraft, registered G-SUNB, was due to land at Manchester Airport (MAN) at 8:30pm but arrived around five hours later after passengers were put on another flight at ORK.

“Flight LS918 from Tenerife to Manchester diverted to Cork Airport on Tuesday 2nd January, due to a customer requiring medical attention. Regrettably, we can confirm that the customer sadly passed away, despite the best efforts of our highly trained crew who intervened as soon as they became aware,” Jet2 said in a statement.

The low-cost carrier added: “This was an extremely difficult situation for our crew, and we would like to thank them for their efforts. Our thoughts are with the customer’s family and friends at this very difficult time.”
