Indonesia AirAsia has announced its latest route, with direct flights from Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) and Soekarno–Hatta International Airport (CGK) in Indonesia to Hong Kong International Airport (HKG).

The first flight from Hong Kong to Bali will take off on October 1, 2024, with a one-a-day daily frequency thereafter.

Meanwhile, the Hong Kong-Jakarta route will begin operating on October 8, 2024, also with once-daily frequency.

The flights are scheduled to operate on the following times and frequencies:

The Indonesian arm of AirAsia is the first (and so far only) low-cost carrier to offer direct flights between these cities, creating a closer and faster connection between Southeast Asia and Asia.

According to AirAsia, data from the Statistics Bureau of Indonesia (BPS) shows that total visits by foreign tourists from Hong Kong between January and June 2024 reached 13,673.

This figure is nearly 98.5% of the total visits in 2023, which reached 13,885. Meanwhile, data from the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) indicates that tourists from Indonesia visiting Hong Kong in 2023 increased by 3,276.87% – a total of 252,432 tourists – compared to 2022, when the total was 7,480.

With the addition of direct flights between Jakarta / Bali and Hong Kong, it is hoped that the number of visits to both sides will continue to increase before the end of 2024.

“Indonesia AirAsia is committed to providing the best service and expanding its flight network to meet the increasing needs and demands of passengers, whether for vacation trips with beloved family and friends or for business trips,” Veranita Yosephine, CEO Indonesia AirAsia said in a statement.

Yosephine added: “With the introduction of these new routes, Indonesia AirAsia hopes to support the growth of tourism and the economy between both sides”.
