KM Malta Airlines, the new Maltese carrier, has shared some images of its aircraft already sporting its new livery, which bears a remarkable similarity to Malta Airlines’ current one.

The new airline will replace Air Malta as the flag carrier of the Mediterranean island nation from March 31, 2024, taking over its assets and staff.

The pictures were shared on December 11, 2023, the same day that KM Malta Airlines also announced its online reservation system was open for direct bookings.

The airline opened its reservation system to third-party bookings (those made through travel agents) on December 4, 2023, selling over 122,000 seats in a week.

Prior to that, on December 1, 2023, the carrier received its air operator certificate (AOC) from the Maltese authorities.

Winding down the legacy flag carrier and setting up a new carrier was seen as the only way for Malta to save its national carrier in the face of Air Malta’s prolonged financial agony.
