Leina’ala Ann Teruya Drummond, who was the face of the iconic Hawaiian Airlines logo since 1973, has passed away at the age of 77.

A former Miss Hawaii 1964, Drummond, who died of cancer on September 18, 2023, helped popularize and had a significant impact on Hawaiian Airlines and its iconic logo and livery.

A native of Wailuku, Drummond placed in the top 10 at the Miss America contest in 1964. When she was 18, Drummond joined Hawaiian Airlines as a flight attendant.

Not long after joining the airline, Drummond became the face of the popular Hawaiian Airlines logo featuring her distinctive side profile. The logo is known as Pualani, a Hawaiian term signifying the “flower of the sky.”

Drummond’s face is on the tail of Hawaiian Airlines’ aircraft fleet, which totals more than 50 and serves approximately 30 cities worldwide.

Drummond was also an ordained pastor and served as a Maui County council member from 1990 to 1992.
