Hawaiian Airlines has unveiled a new Walt Disney-themed special livery on one of its Airbus A330 aircraft.

The new livery depicts several characters from the upcoming animated musical, ‘Moana 2’, which will be released in theaters on November 27, 2024.

The A330 will showcase the first of three ‘Moana 2’-themed liveries, which the Hawaiian airline plans to unveil in the coming weeks. The other two, both of which will be made public in November 2024, will be applied to an Airbus A321 and a Boeing 717 aircraft, respectively.

The “Moana 2 experience” will not be limited to the aircraft appearance with passengers on the first flights performed also receiving some gifts.

The airline is also running a “Navigate Your Own Adventure” sweepstake that will see five lucky winners receive 500,000 HawaiianMiles.

The three aircraft involved in this campaign were chosen because they are named after elements of traditional Polynesian celestial navigational practices.

The Airbus A330 is named “Hōkūleʻa”, which refers both to zenith star Arcturus and Hawaii’s traditional voyaging canoes. The “Koa” Airbus A321neo is a reference to the Acacia koa, a wood used to build Polynesian voyaging canoes, and the Boeing 717 is named “Elepaio”, after a native Hawaiian bird which is considered to be the guardian of canoe builders.

This is not the first time Hawaiian Airlines has decorated its aircraft with ‘Moana’ motifs. Hawaiian Airlines’ first ‘Moana’ aircraft, an A330-200, was unveiled in 2016.
