Garuda Indonesia and Singapore Airlines have received approval from the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore (CCCS) for their commercial joint venture agreement, marking a new milestone in their strategic partnership.

According to the announcement, the joint venture will allow the airlines to operate joint revenue sharing flights between Indonesia and Singapore, coordinate flight schedules to offer travelers more connectivity options between the two countries and beyond and reach joint sales and marketing initiatives.

Currently both airlines codeshare on a wide range of flights between Singapore and Indonesian cities such as Bali (DPS), Jakarta (CGK), Surabaya (SUB), as well as long distance routes between Singapore and Johannesburg (JNB), London-Heathrow (LHR), and Mumbai (BOM).

“We hope that this joint venture agreement can provide seamless services for passengers with more flight schedule options and ease in earning and redeeming mileage,” Irfan Setiaputra, President and CEO of Garuda Indonesia, commented in a press release. “Also, this collaboration may deliver concrete action to contribute to boosting Indonesian tourism activities, which will support the post-pandemic economic recovery progress.”

Meanwhile, Goh Choon Phong, CEO of Singapore Airlines, said that the strategic partnership has enabled the airlines to broaden codeshare services over the last few years and offer customers more choice.

“This partnership underscores both airlines’ commitment to improving connectivity between Indonesia and Singapore and beyond, boosting both business and leisure travel, and contributing to economic growth,” Phong added.

Garuda Indonesia and Singapore Airlines announced intentions to enter a joint venture in May 2023. Since then both carriers have been working on initiatives such as GarudaMiles and KrisFlyer, offering members the ability to earn and redeem miles on codeshare routes.

Additionally, the airlines have launched other joint marketing initiatives for tourism activities. The carriers are also interested in investigating potential collaborations in air freight and Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) operations.
