easyJet has selected the Collins Aerospace GlobalConnect system to equip the 330 Airbus A320 aircraft in its fleet.

With this deal, the low-cost carrier becomes the largest airline to adopt GlobalConnect, a connected aircraft service developed by RTX subsidiary Collins Aerospace and designed to collect and analyze data about the fleet’s operational performance.

One of the main uses of this system is to be able to optimize flight operations, reducing fuel consumption and carbon emissions. The system will supplement the avionics data analysis capabilities of the Flight Operations and Maintenance Exchanger (FOMAX) platform, another piece of software also developed by Collins Aerospace already in use on easyJet’s aircraft.

“We are constantly seeking innovative solutions that enable our aircraft to be more connected. Collins’ GlobalConnect is one of the many initiatives we will use to drive operational efficiencies across our fleet and to help reduce our emissions,” said Jane Ashton, easyJet’s director of Sustainability.

The two companies highlighted that the installation of the GlobalConnect system could also lead to the removal of Quick Access Recorders (QARs) from aircraft. This is projected to reduce up to 500-tons of carbon per year fleet-wide.

easyJet plans to start rolling out the new system across its whole fleet before the end of 2023.
