A Delta Air Lines flight bound for Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS) was forced to divert to New York’s JFK International Airport (JFK) after passengers were served spoiled in-flight meals.

Flight DL 136 was enroute to Amsterdam from Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) on July 2, 2024, when it was discovered that a portion of in-flight meals served were spoiled.

An airline spokesperson told AeroTime that the flight crew consulted with medical experts, who recommended the diversion to JFK.

“Delta flight 136 from Detroit to Amsterdam diverted to New York’s JFK early Wednesday morning after reports that a portion of the Main Cabin in-flight meal service were spoiled,” the spokesperson said, confirming the incident.

The A330 aircraft carrying 277 passengers landed at JFK Airport safely at 04:00 on July 3, 2024.

Emergency medical teams met the flight but the airline said no one was taken to a hospital.

Delta said all passengers had been rebooked on alternate flights out of JFK to their final destinations.

“Delta’s Food Safety team has engaged our suppliers to immediately isolate the product and launch a thorough investigation into the incident. This is not the service Delta is known for and we sincerely apologize to our customers for the inconvenience and delay in their travels,” the airline said.
