China Airlines plans to give its employees 6.6 month annual bonus: report

Employees of China Airlines could receive more than six months’ worth of salary as their annual bonus.

A report by local media outlet Focus Taiwan suggests that the Taiwanese flag carrier plans to give NT$145,000 ($4,276) to each of its employees, on top of a year-end bonus equivalent to an average 6.6 months of salary.

In a company letter to its employees seen by the news outlet, the airline explained that the NT$145,000 ($4,276) payment consists of NT$110,000  ($3350) as a fixed bonus and NT$35,000 ($1066) as an incentive award.

In addition to the bonuses and an extra 6.6 months of salary, China Airlines also plans to raise wages of its employees by an average of 3%.

The proposed bonuses and raise will be presented to the airline’s board of directors for approval on January 13, 2025.

Meanwhile, a report by Central News Agency claims that two other Taiwanese carriers also intend to give out a year-end bonus to its employees: in the case of EVA Air, a six-month bonus and a 3.5% wage increase, and for STARLUX,  a two-month bonus and a 5% wage increase.

In May 2024, Singapore Airlines gave its employees eight months’ worth of salary as a bonus after the group reported a record profit of SG$2.7 billion ($1.99 billion) for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2024.

In the same month last year, Emirates awarded eligible employees five months’ (20 weeks) salary as a bonus after the company announced a significant profit of AED 18.7 billion (US$5.1 billion).
