Animawings is a relatively new arrival to the Eastern European air travel market.
This privately-owned young Romanian airline, which launched in 2018 as a charter operator backed by Aegean Airlines, is still rather small.
According to the ch-aviation database, as of April 2025, the carrier had four aircraft, two A320s and two A220-300s, but it has plans to grow significantly in the coming years.
The airline’s current owners, Romanian tour operator Memento Group, are betting on the continued growth of the country’s travel market and continues to add more aircraft to the fleet.
Animawings received its first Airbus A220-300 in December 2024, leased from Azorra, and four more aircraft of this type are expected to join the airline’s fleet in the next 12 months. In the longer term, the plan envisages a fleet made up of up to 10 to 12 A220 aircraft.
AeroTime spoke with the airline’s CEO, Antonio Stoian, during Aviation-Event 2025 CLJ, an aviation conference which took place in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, on March 21, 2025.
Stoian shared the story of the carrier and provided some additional insights into its growth strategy, which is linked to the development of its scheduled flight business.
