A Cathay Pacific ground employee at Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) found “foreign objects” in an Airbus A350-1000 aircraft half an hour before it was due to takeoff for Zurich Airport (ZRH).
The unnamed employee posted his discovery on Facebook, sharing photos of the objects found. The post was subsequently deleted.
However, other Facebook users were able to save the photos and the caption before reposting it on social media.
According to the employee’s post caption, he was refueling the aircraft, with manufacturer serial number MSN 233, when he saw that “foreign objects” had been left in one of the engines.
He said that this was discovered 30 minutes prior to takeoff and he immediately advised the captain. The aircraft was checked by an engineer and required “repair”.
The post was worded as follows:
Today I was refueling this CX383..BLXF. I saw foreign objects left in the engine before 30 minutes to takeoff,I talk with captain by immed,after check by engineer, the mention aircraft need stop to fly for repair…I should have successfully prevented an aviation incident to happening😅Aviation safety is everybody responsibility…..

The flight, which occurred on April 3, 2024, was delayed by two hours and 20 minutes. Passengers were transferred to a different aircraft.
