A Black Hawk helicopter from the Tennesse National Guard crashed near an Alabama highway killing the two service personnel onboard.

Authorities confirmed the UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter crashed at 3:00pm on February 15, 2023, while conducting a training flight near Highway 53 in Huntsville, Alabama in the United States.

The Madison County Sherriff’s Department and emergency services rushed to the scene but sadly the crew members on board could not be saved.

Video captured of the crash showed the Black Hawk tumbling through the air before hitting the ground.

A large plume of thick dark smoke filled the air as vehicles on the nearby freeway stopped as the devastating scenes unfolded.

“We have no survivors,” confirmed investigator Brett Patterson of the Maddison County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.

In a statement the Tennesse National Guard assured the public that there had been no injuries or fatalities on the ground.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of the Tennesse National guardsman and our prayers are with their families during this heart-breaking tragedy,” said Brigadier General Warner Ross, Tennessee’s Adjutant General. “We ask Tennesseans to join us in supporting their families during this time of unthinkable grief.”

Alabama Congressman Dale Strong wrote in a tweet: “I’m deeply saddened by the fatal helicopter crash that happened in Madison County today. My heart hurts for those who lost their lives in this tragic incident and for their families as they learn of this news.”
