North Yorkshire Police in the United Kingdom (UK) have arrested three men for manslaughter following the death of a young pilot.
21-year-old Harvey Dunmore was killed when the Piper PA-23-250 Aztec E he was flying crashed in a field near Bagby Airfield, Thirsk on July 6, 2023.
Police officers confirmed on September 13, 2023, that they interviewed three men, aged 37, 55 and 68, following their arrest on September 12, 2023.
Harvey Dunmore was flying solo on a summer’s evening at around 7:45 pm when the light aircraft he was piloting came down and a full investigation is still underway led by the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB).
Following the 21-year-old’s funeral his employer WF Aviation, which sold planes at Baggy Airfield, paid tribute to Harvey Dunmore, describing him as a “one-man wonder”.
“His talent was limitless and not many young lads could achieve what he had at the young age of 21. His passion and enthusiasm for aviation was infectious. His sudden exit from the world has left a large hole in many of our lives. We will keep his memory alive in as many ways as we can,” the company said.
According to a relative, who has set up a fundraiser to raise money to support young aspiring pilots, Harvey earned a scholarship from the Honorable Company of Air Pilots “who recognized his flare, drive and ambition” for flying and he subsequently completed his Private Pilot License at Eden Flight Training in 2019.
The three men interviewed and have since been released under investigation.
