All Nippon Airways (ANA) just can’t seem to get enough of its special fantasy liveries.
The Japanese airline’s Star Wars-themed series of liveries is already a classic of this genre and the three colourful Hawaiian-inspired “Honu” A380s have also achieved iconic status. But Japanese pop culture has also remained a source of inspiration for the airline’s eye-catching liveries.
Earlier this year, ANA unveiled a Pokémon-themed Boeing 787-9, the ‘Pikachu Jet NH’, and now the airline has announced another jet created in collaboration with Pokémon Air Adventures will take to the skies from August 31, 2023.
The specially painted Boeing 777-300ER is called ‘Eevee Jet NH’ and will feature Eevee, a rabbit-like character with the potential to evolve into various forms. Eevee is depicted in the livery moving forward into the future together with Pikachu in an implicit allegory of the act of travelling to new places.
It is planned for this livery to be in place for a period of five years. The routes this aircraft will at first deploy to have been confirmed as those between Tokyo Haneda (HND) and London (LHR), New York (JFK) and San Francisco (SFO).
As is usually the case with these types of aircraft, the cabin has also been decorated with the Pokémon theme and passengers flying the airplane will receive a special boarding certificate.
But that’s not all. ANA has unveiled yet another set of cartoon-themed liveries, this time for its DHC-8-400 fleet, which operates domestic routes within Japan through its ANA Wings subsidiary.
Characters from the anime TV series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba will adorn three of ANA’s turboprops (JA844A, JA846A, JA850A) from July 14, 2023. The special design will be visible both outside the aircraft, near the front door as well as in the cabin.
Passengers on all of ANA Wings 24 DHC-8-400 aircraft will receive sets of decal stickers featuring characters from the popular series. These will also contain AR photo frames that passengers will be able to activate via mobile phone at the airport terminal.
