Survey Copter, a subsidiary of Airbus, unveiled CAPA-X, a multi-mission modular tactical drone, at the SOFINS special forces show in Bordeaux, France, on March 28, 2023.
CAPA-X presents itself as a multi-mission drone that can be adjusted according to the needs of the mission.
“Capa-X is a concept of UAS [Unmanned Aircraft System], a modular solution adapted to fulfill all types of missions, on every theatre of operations and in every condition,” Airbus explained in a brochure.
The flight profile of the drone can be adjusted. Two lengths of wings are available, along with a kit that allows vertical take-off and landings, including from a naval platform. The top speed is expected to be 81 knots (150 kilometers per hour), while the maximum altitude will be 9,642 feet (3,000 meters).
In addition to its built-in electro-optical and infrared camera, CAPA-X has an internal hold that can be fitted with a variety of payloads ranging from signals intelligence equipment to a communication relay or even airdroppable cargo. The payload capacity will be superior to 10 kilograms.
The French company Survey Copter is specialized in fixed wings mini-UAV systems intended for military and civilian uses. In September 2022, the French Navy began deploying ALIACA observation drones developed by Survey Copter.
