AirAsia has joined forces with video game companies SEGA and Atlus to introduce new gaming-themed aircraft liveries and immersive in-flight experiences.

As part of the collaboration, one of AirAsia X’s A330 aircraft, with tail number 9M-XXU, has been adorned with designs featuring Sonic the Hedgehog and his friends Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, and Amy Rose.

Another aircraft, AirAsia’s Airbus A320 with tail number 9M-AFF, has been decorated with Persona 5 characters Joker and Morgana.

According to AirAsia, the two aircraft will fly routes across its network of destinations including major cities in Southeast Asia and Asia-Pacific, such as Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport (BKK), Tokyo-Narita International Airport (NRT), Seoul Incheon International Airport (ICN), Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE), Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) and Sydney Kingsford Smith International Airport (SYD).

“This partnership marks another milestone for the AirAsia brand as we delve deeper into the exciting world of gaming and pop culture,” Rudy Khaw, CEO of AirAsia brand said in a statement.

Khaw continued: “This partnership is a natural fit for AirAsia, as it aligns perfectly with our commitment to providing experiences for our guests and communities. As a brand that carries the pride of Asean, we are thrilled to showcase the region’s vibrant spirit and creativity through this partnership.”

To enhance the gaming-themed experience onboard, AirAsia’s in-flight catering company will offer Sonic’s Golden Ring Cakes – mango and lemon-flavored golden ring cakes that resemble Sonic’s signature golden rings.

The special cakes are available for pre-booking on all AirAsia Malaysia (flight code: AK) and AirAsia X Malaysia (flight code: D7) flights. An order includes a fizzy Iced Yuzu drink and a free Sonic-themed sticker with each purchase.

The low-cost carrier will introduce exclusive Sonic the Hedgehog and Persona 5 merchandise, available for purchase starting in the first quarter of 2025 on all AirAsia Malaysia and AirAsia X flights.
