Extreme crosswinds at Toronto Pearson Airport (YYZ)  caused an Air Canada B777-300 to make a dramatic hard landing at the airport’s runway on November 13, 2023.

The aircraft, registration C-FIUV, was arriving from Tokyo International Airport (TYO) under flight number AC2.

Upon final approach at Toronto Airport’s runway 24L, the aircraft encountered turbulence due to crosswinds.

The “heart-stopping” landing was caught on video, and uploaded via livestream on YouTube by Wake Turbulence Aviation channel:

The Boeing 777-300 can be seen making an uneven approach as it nears the runway before landing roughly on the tarmac. The aircraft  then bounces on its left and right tires as plumes of smoke can be seen coming from the landing gear.

Despite the uneasy landing, the pilot managed to take control of the aircraft and brought it to a safe stop.

None of the 373 passengers on board were injured during the incident.

“Air Canada flight AC002 from Narita experienced a hard landing due to crosswinds on arrival at Toronto Pearson on November 13, 2023,” an Air Canada representative told Canadian media outlet BlogTO

The airline added: “Although the Boeing 777 aircraft taxied to the gate normally after landing, as a precautionary measure, it was taken out of service for a full inspection.”
