Flights were temporarily suspended when a fire broke out inside Baghdad International Airport (BGW) on the evening of November 15, 2022.
Local media reports that the fire broke out in a refreshments area in the departure hall.
Video clips of the fire were uploaded to social media and showed plumes of smoke and flames spreading across the airport ceiling.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire and flights have since been resumed at the airport.
“The fire lasted several minutes and three people were treated for light respiratory difficulty,” an anonymous civil defense official told local media.
Baghdad International Airport opened in 1987 during the era of dictator Saddam Hussein, and has not undergone any considerable renovations since.
