Embraer announced that its E190-E2 became the first aircraft in the E2 family to be certified in China after receiving approval from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) for operations in the country.

The E190-E2, situated between the E175-E2 and E195-E2 in the E2 program, received its type certificate (TC) from the CAAC on November 10, 2022. Embraer hopes that the largest of the three will soon receive its TC as well, which would only strengthen the manufacturer’s sales potential in the country.

“CAAC’s certification of the E190-E2 is great news for Embraer and our prospective customers in China,” stated Arjan Meijer, president and chief executive officer of Embraer Commercial Aviation. According to Meijer, the certificate will allow the company to explore significant business opportunities in the country, where “CAAC’s certification of the E190-E2 is great news for Embraer and our prospective customers in China”.

Interestingly, Meijer also mentioned that both the E190-E2 and the E195-E2 “offers complementary capacity to China’s indigenous ARJ21 and C919 aircraft”.

“The E2 will not only provide the best in class economics and emission reductions for airlines, but also help to accelerate implementation of China’s Essential Air Service program to connect more secondary and tertiary cities,” concluded Meijer.

The E190-E2 was the first out of the three to fly commercially, as the jet made its debut with passengers onboard on December 3, 2018. The E195-E2, meanwhile, first carried paying customers on September 12, 2019, while the E175-E2 is yet to be certified, with the manufacturer announcing in February 2022 that development would be paused for three years.
